Pestilence Shamblers are disgusting and dangerous offshoots of Shambling
Mounds (q.v.) Found in fetid, stagnant swamplands, they pose a great
danger to the unwary because of the diseases they carry. If a Pestilence
Shambler strikes a victim in combat, the Disease table in the Dungeon
Master's Guide must be consulted - there is a 50% chance that the injured
will immediately contract one of the diseases outlined there. Further, if
a 100 is rolled, a foul rotting disorder will be afflicted on the target,
which acts as mummy rot!
These slimy, noisome beasts are indistinguishable from Shambling Mounds,
save for a strong rotting stench (save versus Poison or suffer -1 to all
attack rolls due to gagging and retching).
