Dracolich under 1e (Greenwood fans need not apply)

Postby thedungeondelver on Mon Jun 01, 2009 10:49 am

Hey all,

I'm considering running a certain module that makes mention of the afore-noted undead lizard. Prior to "wing buffets" and "tail strikes" and the other silliness introduced by Dragonlance and so on in 1e, did anyone ever try to create ol' Dragotha?

I may, depending...

Depending on our levels, abilities and such, I for one would relish the idea of facing such a mental challenge and it's minions. That is as long as we are properly equipped both in spells, weapons and knowledge lore so that it would be a fair fight, decided only by our ability to use our wits and imagination to defeat such a foe.

Har. No, it's not hardly you guys that need to sweat this. I have more...creative...ways to deal with you all.

:D

No this is actually for a module I'm considering running as a one shot for some friends who are moving back from Cali next month. Not that I wouldn't run it for you guys as well but it's best suited to a one-off...

We could do it with a one-off with our previous charaters! Maybe on their way back to Blu. LOL

Yeah, I checked out the article in Dragon #110 from Greenwood, and it’s best left alone.

This module from Bruce Cordell looks better after a quick glance. Have you seen it? Check it out, even though it’s 2e.

There are a few Dragotha sources worth digging into for inspiration:
- from Dragon 134, William Simpson's "Lords & Legends" article
- from Dragotha's Lair, per Falconer's link (a tie-in to Return to White Plume Mountain, which doesn't really use Dragotha directly)
- from the Age of Worms Adventure Path in Dungeon #134 (but the previous two adventures also deal with Dragotha; see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Age_of_Worms for more details)

Other useful sources:

Dragotha (Dracolich)[NPC]
- DRG#293 - 91
- DUN#77 - 37
- RWPM - 2,8,15,42
- WPM (orange cover) - 3

If you like associating Dragotha with the Rift Canyon, there were also some articles about the Wyrmscrawl Fissure that could prove interesting:
