So let's talk Githyanki

Postby thedungeondelver on Wed May 06, 2009 12:21 pm

I'm thinking of using them in an upcoming adventure. So, questions:

The Githyanki are described as having an anti-paladin in their larger groups. How would you play this? Use the anti-paladin from Dragon magazine?

As to the actual lair of Githyanki, the encounter number of 21-40 is listed for encounters in their "lair". Since the description notes that they aren't typically found on the Prime Material Plane except when they're on a mission, would you then assume this lair to be on the Astral Plane or in fact on the PMP as some kind of outpost, with the entirety of the Githyanki's "homeworld" being on the Astral Plane?

I always took it to be a fortified position on the Prime Material. As for the "anti-paladin" I would 'probly just play it like an evil paladin. I always liked this monster, goes good if you like sci-fi mixed up with your D&D.

I've always assumed that the no. appearing for Githyanki was for a lair on the Astral Plane, where they are indigenous. As for anti-paladin, I'd say use whatever version you're comfortable with.

I've never quite been able to figure that one out. The illustrations for the githyanki are pretty strange; the one inside the book is just as weird (same Ed Grimley haircut, but no oozing elbows) in that it looks like he's digitigrade. (That's backward-bending knees, right?)

Maybe those weird elbow growths are fighting spurs that the males develop when the githyanki rut comes around. Then they have bizzare elbow fights in the hopes of winning the admiration and affections of those hot, hot githyanki chicks. I bet the smell of rutting githyanki musk would make an otyugh gag.

I've got deja vu, I just answered this post(very late I know) at K&KA.

So briefly,

Anti-pal as per dragon mag, or reverse PH paladin or even Ilrigger or Arrikhan (plethora of paladins-dragon mag)

small 21-40 lair is PMP, FF notes they live in large castles in the astral(1000+ #/app)

PMP encounters are merely projected forms(simular to a human using astral projection, the gith are using a PMP projection ability), at least 99% of the time.
